Chris Franz is an American musician, best known as the drummer for the band Talking Heads. He was born on May 8, 1951, in Fort Lee, Virginia, and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Franz attended the Rhode Island School of Design in the mid-1970s, where he met Talking Heads bandmates David Byrne and Tina Weymouth.

Franz started playing drums in various garage and rock bands in high school, and later joined the psychedelic rock band The Artistics in Rhode Island. With Talking Heads, Franz played on some of the band's most iconic albums, including "Talking Heads: 77," "Remain in Light," "Speaking in Tongues," and "Stop Making Sense." He was known for his minimalist but powerful drumming style, and his ability to blend different musical genres.

In addition to his work with Talking Heads, Franz has played with other groups and artists, including Tom Tom Club (with Weymouth), The Heads (with Jerry Harrison), and The Modern Lovers. He has also produced albums for various artists, including Happy Mondays and Ziggy Marley.

Franz continues to be active in music, and in 2002 he reunited with Talking Heads bandmates Byrne and Weymouth for a one-off performance at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
